Anti-Zionist organisations condemn synagogue firebombing as ‘attack on us all’

Anti-Zionist organisations have condemned the attack on a Melbourne synagogue on December 6 saying it is “an attack on us all”.

The Jewish Council of Australia said it understood windows were smashed at Adass Israel Synagogue and molotov cocktails were thrown in while congregants were inside.

that “early-morning worshippers inside the synagogue reported seeing two masked men throw fuel inside the premises, before setting it alight”.

Max Kaiser, spokesperson for the Jewish Council of Australia, said: “Now, more than ever, we remain committed to advocating for a society where diversity is celebrated, and all individuals and communities can live without fear of discrimination or violence.”

Sarah Schwartz, another JCA spokesperson said: “No one should be unsafe in a place of worship … Acts of antisemitic violence are attacks on our collective values of inclusivity and respect.”

The said: "Attacks on religious institutions have no place in our community. Racist attacks rooted in antisemitism, Islamophobia or anti-Palestinian racism must be opposed and condemned in equal measure.”

APAN said that its members’ thoughts and solidarity are “with the Jewish community and all those affected by these acts”.
