In March, as US President George Bush and his gang prepared to invade Iraq, 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly was the third most visited web site by Australians looking for information about the war. In first and second place were the British Guardian's and Michael Moore's web sites, according to web monitoring company Hitwise.

In the same period, 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly's web site became the most visited of Australian political web sites.

91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly is unique. It is not just a newspaper, it is an important part of the global movement for progressive social change. 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly not only provides information and analysis, it actively builds campaigns for social justice, human rights and the environment.

We have become the best and most widely circulated alternative paper in Australia without any big financial backers. For more than 10 years, 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly has survived by relying on contributions from our subscribers and supporters. We've been getting out on the streets, week after week, through the highs and lows of the popular movements for social change in Australia.

At the big rallies and marches for peace and justice, 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly is snapped up by thousands of friendly readers. In slower political periods, our voluntary street sellers are regularly complimented: "Good on you, 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly, for keeping up the struggle!"

The internet multiplied our audience from a few thousand a week (through street sales and subscriptions) to an average of 10,000 internet visits a day! The articles in 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly are available free, and fully archived, on the web. But this means that most of our readers today don't share the costs of producing 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly.

To enable us to maintain our independence from the billionaires and media moguls, and to continue to provide a progressive alternative to the mainstream media, we are launching Friends of 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly. We would like to invite all our readers and supporters to consider becoming a Friend of 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly by making a regular financial contribution. As a Friend of 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly, you will receive a monthly newsletter and a membership card which will entitle you to a 10% discount at all Resistance Bookshops (with more benefits in the future). Most importantly you will be playing a crucial role in helping to keep 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly alive and fighting for a better world!
