Movie: Cathy Come Home (1966) — Ken Loach's landmark drama-documentary about a happily married couple with three children whose lives go disastrously wrong when the husband has an accident and loses his job. SBS, Monday, December 8, 12.30pm.

Movie: Raining Stones (1993) — Winner of the Cannes Jury Prize, Ken Loach's gritty film set on a council estate in the north of England tells the story of an unemployed man who fights to raise the cash to buy his 7-year-old daughter a communion dress. SBS, Tuesday, December 9, 1am.

Wildscreen: Dawn to Dusk — Photographer Jonathan Scott begins a series about what wildlife can be seen in the course of a day. On the back of Abu, a former circus elephant, Scott explores the threatened Okavango delta in Botswana. ABC-TV, Wednesday, December 10, 8pm.

Family Values — A lesbian film maker's diary-style doco about her attempts at reconciliation with her father, an activist of the religious right. SBS, Wednesday, December 10, 8.30pm.

My Mother is an Alien — Lesbians have always had children, and been adept at living under cover within the general population. In the 1970s, being out became part of lesbian feminist politics. Now the first generation of those children of lesbian feminists have reached adulthood. This British documentary asks what they think of their childhoods, their mothers' politics, their mothers' being out, and the value system in which they grew up. A Gay Childhood — Zachary has two gay fathers, Maya has two lesbian mothers and Alex has all four. In San Francisco, the family unit is constantly being redefined.
