Construction in Progress comes to Melbourne
Melbourne will host Construction in Progress VI — The Bridge next March. The project, initiated by the International Artists' Museum, is an event of international significance in which some 90 artists will participate.
The International Artists' Museum traces its origins to the Polish group of revolutionary artists active in Lodz between 1926 and 1936 who sought to open borders between national cultures, artists and societies in the belief that art could change society.
The group included painters, politicians, sculptors and poets who initiated contact abroad with artists such as Kandinsky, Kupka and Mondrian.
Construction in Progress has previously been staged in Germany, Wales, Israel and India. Artists and writers will use various public and private sites on and adjacent to the waterways of inner Melbourne.
The Bridge will be a multi-media event incorporating sculpture, painting, new media and performance in which some 100 temporary and permanent artworks will be created. At the end of the exhibition, the works will be donated to the city of Melbourne.
