The 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly Fighting Fund got off to a flying start at the Democratic Socialist Party's January 3-7 congress. Members and supporters of the party pledged a massive $121,615 at the congress rally. It was the first of a series of special fundraising events celebrating 10 years of Australia's leading radical left newsweekly.
Rally speakers focused on issues regularly covered in the pages of 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly: international solidarity; the struggle for women's liberation; the campaign against corporate tyranny; the role of young people in leading campaigns against injustice; and the Cuban people's fight for self-determination and socialism.
This fantastic show of support for 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly — the highest amount ever pledged at a DSP congress rally for the Fighting Fund — will help meet printing and production costs for the year and assist with the purchase of much-needed equipment such as better computers and a new A3 laser printer.
While the donations pledged at the congress will go a considerable way towards financing 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly, many more tens of thousands of dollars will be needed in the year ahead. The DSP is aiming to raise a total of almost $250,000 for 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly in 2001.
