CANBERRA — Another victim has fallen prey to the inadequacies of the ACT's health system. A young Aboriginal woman died while in the care of a major hospital in what are described by community representatives as "highly unusual circumstances". The autopsy's "no finding" result has shocked the community.

The woman had been discharged but was readmitted and in hospital for several days prior to her death. The Woden Valley hospital board of directors has met with the family and 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly understands that a full coronial investigation will take place.

PERTH — More than 100 people attended a one-day "nuclear showdown" conference which focused on anti-nuclear campaigning on May 27. The next issue of 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly will contain a detailed report on the conference.

SYDNEY — Alejandro Herrera Agete, a member of the Havana city bureau of the Union of Young Communists of Cuba, completed an 11-day speaking tour here on June 2. The tour included a public meeting at the University of Technology on May 30 which attracted more than 100 people, as well as a range of well-attended campus meetings.

Agete was quizzed about how Cubans were managing with the 35-year old economic blockade imposed by the US, homosexuality, democracy, youth support for the revolution, censorship and who will succeed Fidel Castro.

SYDNEY — Sixty people participated in a national consultation organised by the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society on May 19-21. International guests included Eva Seone, vice president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and Basilio Gutierrez, part of the Asia and Oceania Directorate of ICAP.

The meeting decided to continue the "glass of milk for a Cuban child" campaign and discussed the forthcoming tours of the Cuban foreign minister, Roberto Robaina, and Communist Party central committee member and MP Melba Hernandez. A cultural event to mark the 100th anniversary of Jos‚ Mart¡'s death was attended by more than 200 people, as was an ACFS dinner dance.
