NATIONAL — Resistance branches across the country held launches of the new Resistance magazine on the weekend of November 14. Stay tuned for more news next week.
SYDNEY — On November 6, the Sydney Resistance branch set an exciting path for socialist activity in the coming months. Thirty members discussed and debated the branch's tasks and perspectives — from anti-racism to women's liberation, from freedom for East Timor to youth rights.
Sydney Resistance decided to work with Sydney West Resistance on a campaign against increased police powers and police harassment of young people; the branch called an action for November 20 outside Town Hall on the issue. The meeting also called a high school action against the Jabiluka uranium mine for November 27 in the lead-up to a national day of action on December 6.
CANBERRA — How's this for an interesting school assignment? One Resistance member from a school in Tuggeranong in Canberra's south joined after hearing of our high school walkouts and after her whole class was asked to write a project on "What would you do if you were a leader of Resistance?"
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — We've just heard word from our friends in the National Student Federation that the first issue of their magazine Azad (the Pakistani version of Resistance magazine) has gone down very well. Reza reports, "The response was beyond our expectations — in just two hours, we had sold a couple of hundred copies". The NSF has also formed new groups on several institutes and colleges and is charging along. Congratulations!
