Poem: Coward's Way

Coward's Way

Your demands for justice
fall to the ground at my feet
My ears are deaf to your cries
for profit must come before people
— it's a simple fact
of my political life!
I will not utter an apology
— to do so would admit to guilt
for although I know that you all know it's true
it would shatter the illusions I've built!
I've strived to oppress your people
— yet some bothersome voices persist
they seem to be gaining momentum ...
Well this is an awkward twist!
Though I shall stick to my stance
— thanks all the same
and declare with a perfectly straight face
"Your generation wasn't stolen my dears
— perhaps —
it was merely MISPLACED!!"
