HOBART — In response to the high-profile abortion-bashing by federal health minister Tony Abbott and friends, the Hobart International Women's Day collective has decided to prioritise pro-choice campaigning this year.
Meeting on February 28, the collective made plans for a pro-choice forum, "Responses to the abortion debate", at the Town Hall on April 27. The forum will feature state attorney-general Judy Jackson, Tasmanian Greens parliamentary leader Peg Putt, Socialist Alliance activist and pro-choice doctor Kamala Emanuel and Suzy Allan, a clinical psychologist who has researched the psychological impact of abortion on women.
The collective is seeking broader sponsorship from a range of pro-choice organisations and individuals for the forum.
