Socialist Alliance in Western Australia will run activist candidates in the federal seat of Fremantle and in the Senate on a “People before Profit” platform.

Josh Last will contest Fremantle, and Jade “Nova” Sobieralski and Riley Breen will stand in the Senate.

They are highlighting the need to expand Medicare, nationalise mineral resources, oppose AUKUS, defend the unions, provide housing for everyone and oppose new fossil fuel projects.

All three are committed activists, dedicated to building community-based campaigns to fight for peoples’ rights, global justice and to stop the climate emergency.

Last, a home-grown Fremantle musician, has a professional background in IT. He is now studying to be a primary school teacher, after working in agriculture and seasonal tourism.

He led a successful campaign, as part of the Australian Workers Union, against multinational corporations in the ski industry.

Sobieralski has campaigned for marriage equality and they are active in fighting for Queer liberation. “The need for a grassroots movement, based on radical solidarity between oppressed social groups and the wider working class, has never been more urgent.”

Breen is a passionate advocate for the disadvantaged. He has been involved in campaigns for climate action and the movement to stop the genocide in Palestine. He has twice been detained by police for taking part in direct action protests.

“Socialist Alliance is made up of people who, like millions of others, are sick of being ruled by the warmongers, racists, union-bashers, and capitalist politicians,” Breen said.

“We believe that the majority of people, by acting in their workplaces, on their campuses, in their communities, and on the streets, can develop the power to create a just and environmentally sustainable alternative to profit-driven capitalism.”
