SYDNEY — On October 10, 30 people gathered at the Manly library to watch John Pilger's documentary Paying the Price: Killing the Children of Iraq. The screening was organised by the Northside Socialist Alliance branch.
After the screening, Socialist Alliance member Michael Morphett condemned the Australian government's unwavering support for the US President George Bush's war plans and urged people to get involved in the anti-war movement.
“Hundreds of thousands of people in Europe have opposed the war. Many thousands are protesting in the US. We need to build mass opposition to the war in Australia and we invite you to work alongside us in the Socialist Alliance”, Morphett said.
Northside Socialist Alliance members have been campaigning in the Manly area throughout the year.
A series of very successful public events in the Manly area have included a meeting, titled “The people versus Phillip Ruddock”, which attracted more than 200 people, and a screening of John Pilger's Breaking the Silence, which was sold out before the doors opened.
