MELBOURNE — On October 2, the Victorian Electoral Commission received the 502nd positive response to a questionnaire it sent to all Socialist Alliance members in the state. Five-hundred positive returns were required by October 4 for the Socialist Alliance to be eligible for electoral registration in Victoria.

The final stage of the registration process, the fielding of objections to the alliance's registration, began with the placement of an advertisement in the Victorian Government Gazette, the Age and the Herald Sun on October 3.

In the absence of a successful complaint, the Socialist Alliance will achieve electoral registration in Victoria on November 2, which is two days before Labor Premier Steve Bracks is constitutionally able to call an early election.

"Electoral registration will be a great asset for Socialist Alliance in Victoria", Jackie Lynch, Socialist Alliance candidate for Northcote, told 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly. "Electoral registration gives the alliance greater legitimacy among voters, and makes our candidates easily identifiable on the ballot paper.

"With registration secured we are looking forward to an ambitious socialist election campaign at the next Victorian election", Lynch added.

Socialist Alliance in Victoria will be holding a celebratory dinner on November 2 at the Flemington Community Centre, 15 Mt Alexander Road, Flemington, starting at 7.30pm.
