Solidarity

91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ is not only a newspaper. We do not choose what we cover in the same way that the establishment press does. We do not seek to sensationalise, or to exploit subjects. For 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳, reporting is an act of solidarity.

So it is with the 29 East Timorese students occupying the compound of the US embassy in Jakarta. For the commercial press, this was a diversion, a sensational development on the eve of the APEC summit. As soon as APEC concluded, the international media show moved on and the East Timorese students were left to their fate.

For 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly the actions of the Timorese students are not an amusing novelty. The action of the students has to be seen in the light of the 19-year campaign of the East Timorese people to free their homeland.

Coverage of the struggle of the East Timorese for justice is a permanent feature of our editorial policy. 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ seeks not only to cover the "news", but to provide active solidarity with those in struggle, from East Timor to Bougainville to Palestine to South Africa.

Our resources are directed toward publicising the events that are often brushed aside by the media in the interest of international diplomacy. 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ is not afraid to embarrass those with blood on their hands, no matter where they are.

This is what we mean by a campaigning newspaper. Every issue campaigns for the rights of those who are suffering oppression of any kind.

91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly can be your voice for justice, but we can't do it alone. Your support, your solidarity will ensure that the paper's solidarity continues to be heard. Subscribe, write or donate today. 91×ÔÅÄÂÛ̳ Weekly — it's your newspaper.
