NEWCASTLE — On September 16, 15 people held an anti-ASIO, pro-free speech picket in Hamilton. Members of the environmental collective at Newcastle University Students Association brought banners in the drizzling rain and gave out leaflets that highlighted the ANZ bank's profiteering from the US-led occupation of Iraq.

Some defendants from the Gunns 20 campaign also participated in the picket. Kerry Vernon from the Socialist Alliance spoke against the use by the Howard government of its "anti-terrorism" laws to deport US peace activist Scott Parkin.
