Tas uni refuses to negotiate

The National Tertiary Education Union (Tasmania) sent its log of claims to the University of Tasmania's management almost a year ago. Despite numerous meetings between the NTEU and management, little has been achieved.

Major issues include workload, job security, reinstating conditions removed by previous prime minister John Howard and improved conditions for casuals.

In late March, management made a 4% pay increase announcement when NTEU members endorsed a campaign for intensive bargaining. When members unanimously endorsed holding a protected action ballot at an April 6 meeting, further concessions were made.

The results of the ballot will be announced on May 15.
