UNITED STATES: 12,422 soldiers in PTSD treatment
Figures released on February 28 by the Morgantown veteran centre reveal that the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have produced the most grievously wounded veterans since the Vietnam War ended in 1975. Of the 244,054 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans now discharged, 12,422 are in military-funded treatment in US facilities for post-traumatic stress disorder. A total of 48,733 veterans from the wars are in treatment.
