NEWCASTLE — Venezuelan revolutionary Carolus Wimmer wound up his national speaking tour here on March 5 when he addressed 35 people at the Resistance Centre. Wimmer, a member of the Latin American parliament, explained the need for international solidarity with Venezuela's quest for economic and political independence from US imperialism.

Following the meeting, activists plan to establish a Venezuela solidarity committee, to be part of the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network.

Wimmer was greeted by local Aboriginal elder and Indigenous-rights activist Arthur Ridgeway, who expressed his support for Venezuela's Bolivarian revolution and conveyed his greetings to the Indigenous people of Venezuela.
