Water activists marched through Parramatta and rallied outside WaterNSW offices on March 13 to demand an end to water trading.

The action was held in solidarity with locals who shut down Wilcannia Bridge, in far western New South Wales, that same day to raise awareness about the plight of the Darling River and Menindee Lakes.

Aboriginal elders and Menindee residents Beryl Carmichael and Barry Stone, along with anti-coal seam gas campaigner Ian Sutton, initiated the Wilcannia protest.

In an open letter to WaterNSW that was delivered at the Parramatta protest, the three explained 鈥渟tronger action [is needed] if we are to avoid the death of the Riverland and wineries in South Australia, the loss of sustainable agriculture in Victoria and a complete rural economic collapse in NSW.鈥

The Parramatta protest was organised by Water For Rivers.
