Ecosocialism 2024: New speakers announced

The fifth annual Ecosocialism conference will be held in Boorloo/Perth, over June 28鈥30 and is being organised by 91自拍论坛, and .

In keeping with its aim of bringing activists from the Indo-Pacific region together, three representatives from the Singaporean left, as well as a leader from the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, will participate.

Also confirmed are Indonesian human rights lawyer Veronica Koman and Indonesian-based research scholar Rebecca Meckelburg. They will be joined by Jess Spear from the Global Ecosocialist Network and a Brazilian activist from the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL).

International speakers already confirmed include: Leila Khaled (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), Salim Vally (South Africa BDS Coalition), Danaletchumi Langaswaran (Socialist Party of Malaysia), Aaron Pedrosa (Party of the Labouring Masses, the Philippines), Ammar Ali Jan (Peoples鈥 Rights Party, Pakistan) and Tabitha Spence (United States climate justice activist).

Local speakers include 91自拍论坛 editorial members Susan Price and Isaac Nellist, Socialist Alliance national co-convenor Sam Wainwright, Nova Sobieralski and Jasmine Noel from Queer Liberation Boorloo, Disrupt Burrup Hub activist Gerard Mazza, RTRFM Indymedia co-host Joni Boyd, disability rights activist Graham Matthews and Gadigal/Sydney-based Palestinian activist and author Khaled Ghannam.

The opening panel on June 28, titled 鈥淔rom the river to the sea: Palestine will be free!鈥 will feature Khaled, Vally and Ghannam.

Panel discussions tackling First Nations sovereignty after the Voice referendum, democracy and self-determination in Asia and the case for ecosocialism will be highlights on the following day.

Debates on the rise of the global far right and building people-to-people solidarity in the Asia-Pacific region will feature on June 30 and the closing rally theme is 鈥淎 world to win鈥.

Eight workshops covering LGBTIQ liberation, organising workers in unorganised industries, human rights in Indonesia and West Papua and winning climate justice are scheduled over the weekend.
