Supporters of Palestinian rights rallied outside Fairfield City Council on August 27, calling on it to disclose and divest from any financial ties to Israel.

Inside, at the public forum section of the council meeting, local resident Rasha Skyby spoke in favour of council disclosing and divesting.

Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone said council has no financial ties to Israel. He said it would issue a formal response.

Palestinian rights supporters who attended the public forum noted that the council was clearly equipped by Hewlett Packard (HP).

One of the major campaigns of the Boycott Divest Sanction (BDS) movement in support of Palestinian rights is for a boycott of HP products.

HP provides computer hardware to the Israeli military and operates data centres for the Israeli police. It also provides the Itanium servers for Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority on which it operates its Aviv System.

This system is central to the Israeli system of racial segregation and apartheid.
