Community radio 3CR is holding its annual Radiothon in June, reports Rachel Kirby.

Chris Gaffney passed away on August 14 after a lengthy battle with cancer. An eloquent speaker, walking encyclopaedia of Marxism, talented actor, aficionado of opera and lover of nature and the animals with which we share the planet, he is survived by his long-time partner Jenny Campbell, their son Danny and granddaughter Elsa.

Melbourne鈥檚 3CR Community Radio will run its annual Radiothon over June 4-17 to keep its radical voice broadcasting.

鈥淔ight for Your Mic鈥 is the rallying cry for this year鈥檚 fundraiser, and it鈥檚 shows like Blaknoise Radio that will ask listeners to dig deep to support the station.

Melbourne is known for good coffee, horrible weather, Australian Rules football and militant unions. Since 1974, community radio station 3CR has been a supporting beam in the city鈥檚 radical infrastructure.
