Following the Queensland government鈥檚 approval of Adani鈥檚 conservation plan for the endangered black-throated finch and聽its groundwater management聽plan, the company again announced it would start work on its Carmichael coalmine project 鈥渨ithin weeks鈥. But it faces several more obstaces, not least of which is the huge social movement gearing up for the next stage of its campaign.
Aurizon鈥檚 coal railway
Two protesters from Front Line Action on Coal blocked Aurizon鈥檚 coal railway near Bowen for five hours on January 9, calling on the Queensland government to rule out funding for Aurizon.
They prevented any coal trains getting to Adani鈥檚 Abbot Point coal terminal by locking their arms inside a steel barrel filled with concrete on the train tracks.
The Queensland Labor government is currently considering rail operator Aurizon鈥檚 bid for a Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility loan to build a rail link between Adani鈥檚 Carmichael coalmine and the terminal.
