Traditional Owners from the Beetaloo Basin and the Torres Strait told their stories of resistance against the fossil fuel industry鈥檚 impact on First Nations communities on March 5.

Despite heat waves, bushfires, cyclones, coral bleaching and floods, Australia continues to extract and export coal and gas. It is Australia鈥檚 biggest contribution to the climate crisis.

Traditional Owners have been resisting extraction on Country for decades and now a growing movement is pushing back against the fossil fuel lobby.

Yessie, who is involved in the campaign 鈥淥ur Islands, Our Home鈥, called on the Labor government to urgently fund the building of seawalls in the Torres Strait.

The audience was told how to stop coal and gas companies destroying First Nations peoples鈥 lands.

The event was organised by 350.org and a diaspora of Pacific islanders living in Gadigal/Sydney.
