Chanting 鈥淣o Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA鈥 and 鈥淎nti-choice, anti-Queer, Liberals are not welcome here鈥, 200 people on January 31 to oppose the far right agenda of Donald Trump.
The rally also took a stand against the political forces in Australia who want to take politics in the same direction here.
Several speakers referred to the January 28 decision of the Liberal National Party government to stop young trans Queenslanders from accessing puberty blockers and other hormone therapies from state run clinics.
Greens MP Michael Berkman that this decision was 鈥減ure dog whistling鈥 and 鈥渇ar right politics at its worst鈥.
He said that anti-trans rhetoric was used by the right wing back in the previous federal election and that it is 鈥渄evastating鈥 today to see 鈥渢hat basic health care is being taken away from children鈥 for similar political goals.
He pointed out that non-trans children are still allowed to access puberty blockers for other health reasons. Only trans children are being denied that care.
鈥淲e heard from a family this week who鈥檚 child was one appointment away from getting that hormone therapy underway and now they鈥檙e just going to be denied that therapy for at least a year,鈥 he told 91自拍论坛.
People carried signs saying 鈥渉ands off our bodies鈥 and 鈥減rotect trans kids鈥 and other signs supporting trans rights.
Socialist Alliance senate candidate Jonathan Strauss who participated in the rally told 91自拍论坛 that 鈥渂uilding the left alternative is the way to defeat the far right鈥.
鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be a street alternative, it鈥檚 going to be an alternative in the electoral arena and it鈥檚 going to be alternative ideas.鈥
