School Strike 4 Climate (SS4C) is calling on all workers and unions to join the Climate Strike on September 20. To make this a reality they have been working on building links with trade unions and have expressed their condemnation of the Scott Morrison Coalition government鈥檚 latest attacks on the rights of trade unions.
In an , SS4C said: 鈥淭here is nothing 鈥榝air鈥 about the Morrison government鈥檚 Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Amendment (Ensuring Integrity) Bill. School strikers wholeheartedly condemn this bill and everything it stands for.鈥
The Ensuring seeks to grant the government powers to intervene in union affairs, sack union officials and deregister unions.
The statement continues: 鈥淭he climate crisis is and will continue to disproportionately impact upon working class people.
鈥淲orkers deserve more rights, not fewer. Yet this Bill would undermine unions鈥 ability to defend workers鈥 rights, making the economic and energy transformations ahead of us even more challenging than they already are.
鈥淪chool strikers stand in solidarity with the union movement in its work to build a more equitable society and fight the unjust systems that are hurting people and our planet.
鈥淭he only way we stand up to the 1% holding us all back is by working together and showing up for one another when it matters most.鈥
