More than 200 social and community workers took unprotected strike action in support of Palestine on February 22.
They rallied outside the Victorian Council of Social Services and marched to the Federation of Community Legal Centres.
Workers from community legal centres and non-profit organisations joined in.
It followed an open letter, signed by more than 500 workers, demanding that community and not-for-profit organisations take a stand against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Many workplaces targeted by the strike claim to support social justice and community power, but have stayed silent about Gaza.
The strike was organised by Australian Services Union Members for Palestine (ASU4Palestine).
ASU4Palestine said it was heeding the call from Palestinian unionists to strike to resist the occupation.
Organisers called for more workplace actions in support of Palestine and to fight repressive laws that limit the workers’ right to strike.
