The Sydney Basin Aboriginal Tent Embassy was officially opened at Victoria Park, Camperdown on November 2, with about 100 supporters showing solidarity.

The Aboriginal Tent Embassy and Blak Caucus organised talks, a smoking ceremony, Indigenous dances and a picnic.

Lizzie Jarrett said: 鈥淲e used the strong response by Senator Lidia Thorpe to the visit of King Charlie as a basis to re-establish the Aboriginal Embassy here in Victoria Park.

鈥淲e are bringing the mob from the Sydney Basin together to discuss Aboriginal sovereignty.

鈥淥ur country is a war crime site. We express our solidarity to all people facing colonial oppression right now.鈥

Other speakers included Ethan Lyon, who explained the significance of the site and urged supporters to respect the camp鈥檚 protocols.

Aunty Rhonda Dixon-Grosvenor gave a welcome to Gadigal Country, also acknowledging Thorpe鈥檚 strong public stand in federal parliament against revering colonialists.
