UNITED STATES: Students on hunger strike

On March 19, 22 Georgetown University students entered their sixth day of hunger strike, demanding the university pays all its workers a living wage. Under university regulations, subcontracted janitors must be paid US$8.50 an hour. One janitor, Sylvia Garcia, had to ask her son to drop out of high school to work to help pay bills. He also works as a janitor at the university. "We are very happy that the students have decided to help us", Garcia said, "because no-one will listen to us.
