Hundreds joined a Human Rights Day vigil at Flagstaff Gardens on December 10 opposing the genocide in Gaza and of First Nations people within so-called Australia.
Uncle Robbie Thorpe and lawyer Daniel Taylor are pursuing a case within the Magistrate's court with the aim of prosecuting Mark Regev, former advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for the crime of genocide. A hearing for the case was expected to begin on the day.
First Nation and Palestine solidarity activists addressed the vigil and emphasised the importance of the case, before marching to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
It was reported at the protest that both Thorpe and Taylor were told by the Department of Public Prosecutions that the case was being withdrawn.
Thorpe said he planned to take the matter to a higher court.Â
A group of protesters were denied entry into the Magistrates Court by Victoria Police.
