After hours of debate, the Organization of American States (OAS) extraordinary session on March 28 came to a close with member-states failing to reach a consensus over Venezuela鈥檚 suspension.

Despite OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro鈥檚 insistent attempts to push for Venezuela鈥檚 expulsion, the 35 member-states expressed mixed opinions regarding the application of the regional body鈥檚 Democratic Charter against the South American country. Needing a two-thirds majority to invoke the charter, the session ended without a vote.聽

Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Relations Delcy Rodriguez issued an on March 14 rejecting Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro鈥檚 calling for the suspension of the South American nation if general elections are not held 鈥渁s quickly as possible鈥.

Thousands marched in Venezuela鈥檚 capital of Caracas on October 12 to commemorate the Day of Indigenous Resistance 鈥 previously known as 鈥淐olombus Day鈥. The march also sought to counter opposition mobilisations in favour of the recall referendum against socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela confirmed shipments of humanitarian aid to the island nation of Haiti on October 5 after category four Hurricane Matthew made its way through Haiti. On October 8, the death toll fro the hurricane, which caused widespread devastation, was put at more than 800.

President Nicolas Maduro made the announcement of aid on his weekly television program In Contact with Maduro on the evening of October 4.

Former National Assembly member Vestalia Sampedro has officially filed the right-wing Movement for Sowing Right's opposition to same sex civil marriage in Venezuela. Sampedro cited 鈥減ro-family鈥 as among the reasons for the conservative group's filing before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
