Jafri Alexandra X has been conducting a one-person crusade against racism in Melbourne for almost two years. He is well known as the person who holds a 鈥渟top鈥 sign with 鈥淪top Racism Now鈥 on it every Friday afternoon outside Flinders Street Station.

At 5pm on聽September 23聽anti-racism activist Jafri was attacked, pepper sprayed聽and detained without provocation by Victoria聽police聽while holding up his "Stop Racism Now" sign 鈥 as he has done for years at Flinders St Station.聽During the arrest Jafri was not given access to legal聽or medical support.聽

In a show of support,聽hundreds of protesters gathered at the Flinders St intersection on聽September 24, demanding聽accountability from Victoria Police and protesting police violence.

About 200 unionists, refugee activists and students rallying in Melbourne on April 8 outside a Liberal Party fundraiser to celebrate 20 years since the election of the Howard government, were attacked by police on horses and the indiscriminate use of pepper spray.
