Three socialist parties from the Asia-Pacific region 鈦犫 Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM), Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and the Socialist Alliance (Australia) 鈦犫 have supported the call by 34 political parties in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, also known as Rojava, for the United Nations to impose a no-fly zone over the region to stop the threatened invasion by the Turkish state under the dictatorial regime of President Recep Tayyip Erdo臒an.
鈥淲e call on the UN to impose a no-fly zone over this territory to block a new invasion by the Turkish state and its allied Islamic fundamentalist groups,鈥 said Reihana Mohideen said, speaking on behalf of the PLM.
鈥淏ordered on all side by hostile and reactionary forces, Rojava stands as a beacon for human solidarity, cooperation and progress.鈥
Choo Chon Kai, from the PSM, hailed the Rojava revolution, in its tenth year, as "an emancipatory project for a future where Kurds, Arabs, Armenians, Assyrians, Muslims and Christians 鈦犫 peoples from all walks of life, regardless of ethnicities and religions, gender and sexual orientation 鈦犫 can live peacefully together and start to reshape the world by overcoming capitalism and imperialism鈥.
Alex Bainbridge from the Socialist Alliance added his party鈥檚 support for the call for a no-fly zone.
鈥淭he airspace over northern Syria is already controlled by the United States and Russia, this effectively means the UN calling on these forces to deny entry to that area to the Turkish military,鈥 he explained.
鈥淭he Rojava revolution is such an inspiring example of liberation, especially women's liberation, so all of us around the world have an interest in protecting it.鈥
