Thousands marched through the streets of Sydney on October 8 chanting "Women, life, freedom" in solidarity with the ongoing uprising in Iran that was sparked by the killing of Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini by the reactionary Islamic fundamentalist regime's "mortality police" for allegedly not wearing her head covering properly.

Greens Senator David Shoebridge called upon the Australian government "not to punish the people of Iran with broad-based sanctions but punish the leadership" in Iran. The march was jointly organised by Iranian and Kurdish community activists and was also addressed by Veronica Koman from Amnesty International.
