About 300 people rallied for equal marriage rights outside today's Liberal National Party Queensland state conference in Brisbane July 14.

Protesters waved banners and signs opposing the recently elected Campbell Newman government's recent attacks on lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGTBI) people鈥檚 rights.

These include proposed changes to the surrogacy act to ban surrogacy for singles, de facto couples of less than two years and same-sex couples; de-funding the Queensland Alliance for Healthy Communties (QAHC); and overturning the previous Labor government's civil unions legislation.

QAHC is a not-for-profit caring for the health and well being of the LGBTI community. It came under attack from the Australian Christian Lobby in the lead-up to the state elections over a their 鈥淩ip & Roll鈥 bus stop advertising campaign that encouraged the use of condoms and pictured a same sex couple.

Newman met with the Australian Christian Lobby prior to his election.

The next major equal rights rally being planned in Brisbane falls on the eigth anniversary of the federal ban on equal marriage rights and will be held at 1pm, Saturday August 11 in Queens Park, Brisbane City.
