The small but vocal crowd chanted 鈥淔ree Bradley Manning鈥 and heard from rally organiser Michele Ambrose and Greens NSW Member of Parliament David Shoebridge. There was then an open microphone, giving those gathered the opportunity to speak out.

鈥淭he Australian government has a lot to be ashamed of. What have we heard in support of Bradley Manning and democracy? We鈥檝e only heard condemnation. When history judges, history will see Manning as a hero.鈥
On March 11, spokesperson for the US State Department PJ Crowley resigned after speaking out against Manning鈥檚 conditions. Crowley described Manning鈥檚 treatment as 鈥渞idiculous, counterproductive and stupid鈥. Barack Obama insisted that Manning鈥檚 conditions are 鈥渁ppropriate鈥.
David House, a friend on Manning鈥檚 visiting list, told Associated Press: 鈥淚t鈥檚 stuff like this that gives Bradley hope. When I go in there, look him in the eyes and say, 鈥楤radley, there are people on the outside that support you,鈥 his eyes light up.鈥
