More than 100 people attended the Hiroshima Day protest on August 6. Organised by , it marched from Hindmarsh Square, through Rundle Mall, to Parliament House.

Speakers criticised the AUKUS pact and the proposed nuclear powered submarines. David Noonan, along-time anti-nuclear campaigner from the Australian Conservation Foundation, explained the dangers of the nuclear industry and waste problems.

Dr Amanda Ruler, SA branch coordinator and National Vice President of the Medical Association for Prevention of War, detailed some alternative spending options, particularly on health. SA Australian Education Union President Andrew Gohl addressed the need for more money to be spent on education.

Professor Al Rainnie spoke about the illusion that this would create jobs for people around Port Adelaide. Greens MLC Tammy Franks also spoke.

This year’s numbers were much larger than last year’s rally, also organised by No Nuclear Subs SA. Channel 7 and ABC TV broadcast coverage of the march and rally.
